Job Summary:

As a Radiology Support Associate at Northwest Community Hospital, you will play a vital role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records in the Radiology Department. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to interact with hospital staff, patients, physicians, and insurance providers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintain patient files and records in a timely and orderly manner, ensuring accurate and complete information.
2. Retrieve and release medical records according to state and federal regulations and hospital policy.
3. Assist radiologists with various requests, including patient history, follow-up reports, and charge discrepancies.
4. Respond to walk-in and phone inquiries for radiology records and reports, and assist physicians in locating diagnostic films and reports.
5. Prepare and mail patient records subpoenaed for court cases, and confirm patient identification for record release.
6. Serve as a fileroom librarian, filing returned examination records to appropriate patient files and maintaining a file of film records from other institutions.
7. Track released films and reports to ensure they can be located and are returned to the file room within 24 hours.
8. Assume lead position as required in the absence of the Team Facilitator, and assist with orientation of new employees.
9. Prepare films for patients scheduled for surgery, and deliver films to the Surgical Department.
10. Perform archival film purge per legal and departmental retention policy.
11. Promote teamwork and good interpersonal relationships, and adhere to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.

Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Knowledge of medical terminology desired at time of hire, with completion of medical/radiology course within first year in position if not completed prior to hire.
3. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
4. Ability to use a computer for data retrieval, and learn medical and radiology specific terminology.
5. Ability to use good judgment and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
6. Ability to work in a highly stressful environment at times due to the volume and urgency of requests.
7. Moderate physical effort required, with continuous standing or walking, and frequent lifting or moving of average weight material such as x-ray films.
8. Ability to work in a team environment and promote good interpersonal relationships.

Working Conditions:

1. Conditions are acceptable, with at least one disagreeable element or hazard, such as heavy x-ray films, continuously present in the environment.
2. Highly stressful environment at times due to the volume and urgency of requests.
