Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Radiology Support Associate to join our team at Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH). As a key member of our Radiology Department, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records, retrieving and releasing medical records, and assisting radiologists with various tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain patient files and records in a timely and orderly manner
Retrieve and release medical records as requested by internal and external medical personnel, physicians, patients, and insurance companies
Assist radiologists with tasks such as preparing and maintaining patient examination records, communicating radiologist preliminary interpretations, and maintaining patient film jackets
Respond to walk-in and phone inquiries for radiology records and reports
Sort and distribute transcribed reports, safeguarding confidentiality of records according to state and federal regulations and department/hospital policy
Perform diagnostic imaging film copying procedures and retrieve patient computer records as needed
Confirm patient identification for record release according to proper procedure
Track released films and reports to ensure they can be located and returned to the file room within 24 hours
Monitor the return of films from the Emergency Room, Surgery, nursing units, and physician offices, logging return dates and filing returned films in proper folders
Assume lead position as required in the absence of the Team Facilitator and assist with orientation of new employees
Prepare films for patients scheduled for surgery and deliver them to the Surgical Department
Perform archival film purge per legal and departmental retention policy
Promote teamwork and good interpersonal relationships
Adhere to all NCH standards, policies, and procedures

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge of medical terminology desired at time of hire, with completion of medical/radiology course within first year in position if not completed prior to hire
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with ability to maintain files in a timely and orderly manner and prioritize and perform a variety of detail-oriented tasks
Ability to use a computer for data retrieval and perform diagnostic imaging film copying procedures
Ability to learn medical and radiology specific terminology and use good judgment to maintain confidentiality of records
Ability to work in a highly stressful environment with continuous standing or walking, frequent lifting or moving of average weight material, and occasional lifting or moving of heavy weight material
