Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our team at the Hampton VA Medical Center. As a Physician Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations, including initial assessment interviews, history and physical exams, lab, imaging, medication and psychotherapy consultation orders, aftercare plans, and follow-up visits.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up care, including reassessments of diagnoses and conditions, medical adjustments, and any further tests or consults indicated.
  • Provide mental health education and counseling to patients and their families.
  • Primary responsibility for care of patients when the clinic medical director is absent.
  • Conduct ongoing follow-up appointments for stable patients, including regular refills of medication, required lab and other tests, and documenting progress.
  • Perform preventive health activities, including intradermal testing.
  • Order diets.
  • Case management.
  • Conduct educational groups.
  • Perform treatment planning in an outpatient and inpatient setting.
  • Evaluate outside consultations presenting to the mental health clinic and determine the appropriate disposition, routing, and urgency of those consults.
  • Develop and implement in-service training for primary care providers regarding the specialty of psychiatry and assist with training medical students, PA students, NP students, psychiatry residents, and fellows.
  • Participate in regional and national meetings for the advancement of psychiatry and continuing medical education requirements.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant.
  • Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
  • Graduate of a training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of PA (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations.

Monday - Friday, 08:00am - 16:30pm
