Sterile Processing Specialist

This is a PRN/As Needed position that requires working between hours per week on an as needed basis and does not qualify for benefits.
Job DescriptionThe Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontaminating, disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, packaging, and sterilizing instrumentation for surgical cases, clinics, and nursing units. The technician must follow protocols to ensure equipment/instrumentation processing meets standards for AAMI and organizational Infection Control guidelines.
Responsibilities- Reassemble and package instrument sets accurately and efficiently in accordance with department policies and procedures and/or the manufacturer's instructions for use.
- Perform manual and mechanical cleaning of reusable instrumentation and equipment.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness and defects, and verify proper functionality.
- Restock Specialty Carts and Omnicells as necessary.
- Document completed work and verify processing parameters.
- Perform accurate documentation within the SPD Information system.
- Sterilize instrument sets in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and manufacture instructions for use (IFU).
- Pick supplies for same day/next day surgical cases.
- Answer telephone calls from internal and external customers.
No educational requirements are specified. Certification and licensure requirements are also not specified. The ideal candidate should possess basic computer skills, understanding of basic medical terminology, and the ability to perform detail-oriented work repetitiously for long periods of time.
Work EnvironmentThe Sterile Processing Technician will work in a fast-paced environment that frequently responds to STAT and ASAP customer needs. The ability to work independently and possess critical thinking skills is essential for this role.
