We are seeking a highly skilled Histology Technologist to join our team at HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital. As a Histology Technologist, you will play a critical role in the laboratory diagnostic process, ensuring the accurate preparation and examination of histology and cytology specimens.
Key Responsibilities- Perform histology and cytology procedures, including specimen processing, fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC, and special stains.
- Ensure positive sample, block, and slide identification, and prepare and maintain reagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation, adhering to manufacturer and department procedures and schedules.
- Adhere to department policies regarding performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment, and procedures performed.
- Troubleshoot and take corrective action to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- High School Diploma and minimum two years of histology experience, or High School Diploma with completion of an accredited program in Histo-technology, or Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology, and one year of histology experience, or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry.
- National Certification as a MT (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) required; State license where required.
- Thorough knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processes, ability to follow protocols for proper fixation and routine staining of samples, and ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills, with ability to train others and demonstrate good technique in cutting, embedding, orientation, and staining of specimens.
