Job Title: Database Administrator

Under the direction of an IT Supervisor II, the incumbent serves as a Database Administrator supporting database operations in the Sacramento District Office/HQ and surrounding area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative and technical support for database infrastructure environments.
  • Collaborate with management and staff to ensure database operations, security, capacity planning, backup/recovery, patching/upgrading, change management, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • Perform complex activities of the System Development Lifecycle, including systems analysis, design, build, test, maintenance, and operations.
  • Provide end-user training in the configuration and use of client technologies.
  • Collaborate with peers and management to update and recommend standards, processes, and procedures, and technology practices.
  • Track, monitor, and audit IT assets to maintain accountability using standard asset management tools and techniques in compliance with the State Administrative Manual and other applicable policies and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Experience supporting multiple Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases.
  • Knowledge of DB tools and ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate with other IT teams, developers, and business units.
  • Experience in optimizing database performance and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks.
  • Familiarity with cloud database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL Database, PowerBI).
  • Experience managing database projects, including migrations and upgrades.
  • Understanding of database security practices, including access control and encryption.
