Clinical Pharmacist for Hematology and Cellular Therapy

Position Overview:
The oncology pharmacy team at the University of Virginia Health System is in search of a dedicated professional to join our efforts in inpatient malignant hematology, bone marrow transplant, and cellular therapy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Engage in multidisciplinary teaching rounds as part of our combined malignant hematology/BMT services, collaborating with a diverse team that includes attending oncologists, oncology fellows, medical residents, and pharmacy learners.
2. Take ownership of the preparation, release, and coordination of chemotherapy and other anti-cancer orders for inpatient administration utilizing our advanced systems, including CAR-T therapies and other innovative, high-risk treatments.
3. Design and implement supportive care and treatment plans for new therapies, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
Patient and Caregiver Education:
1. Provide weekday medication-to-beds services, offering discharge counseling with a focus on hematology/oncology.
2. Deliver comprehensive counseling for new chemotherapy and anti-cancer therapies, often in collaboration with hematology/oncology fellows.
Professional Development:
1. Participate in educational initiatives for providers and nursing staff regarding oncology-specific pharmacology and therapeutics.
2. Mentor and precept PGY2 oncology pharmacy residents, PGY1 pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students, fostering the next generation of pharmacy professionals.
3. Engage in teaching opportunities for the VCU School of Pharmacy, including therapeutic modules and elective courses.
Additional Opportunities:
1. Contribute to committees within the Pharmacy department and across the health system.
2. Participate in interdisciplinary quality improvement initiatives and academic research projects.
3. Potentially rotate into the outpatient infusion pharmacy at the UVA Cancer Center.
Compensation:
The compensation range for this position is $52.46 – $83.94 per hour.
Qualifications:
1. Education: A Bachelor's in Pharmacy or PharmD degree is required.
2. Experience: A PGY-1 residency or equivalent hospital experience (3 years) is necessary, with a PGY-2 residency preferred for specialty areas. Candidates with PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy and/or malignant hematology/BMT experience will be prioritized.
3. Licensure: A valid Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license is required, along with American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider and BLS certification.
Physical Demands:
This role requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, along with proficiency in typing and strong communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and legible writing are essential, as is the ability to lift, push, or pull as needed.
