Position Overview

As a key member of the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), the Manufacturing Systems Engineer will be responsible for a range of critical functions to ensure the successful evaluation and implementation of engineering standards within defense production environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of weapon systems, subsystems, and components at leading defense contractors and their primary suppliers, ensuring that quality and systems engineering requirements are effectively planned and executed. Provide insightful recommendations for risk mitigation and corrective measures based on evaluation outcomes.
  • Execute Production Engineering tasks, which encompass the preparation, review, and enhancement of Technical and Procurement Data Packages; manage configuration control; support manufacturing contracts including Request for Proposals (RFP) and source selection; assist in First Article Test (FAT) and Lot Acceptance Test (LAT) processes; review CDRL deliveries; perform production audits; and offer general technical assistance and reporting.
  • Support pre-production activities including Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Production Readiness Review (PRR), Demonstration Validation Testing, and Weapons System Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB) support as necessary. Conduct effectiveness analyses, interface control, and systems integration while performing engineering investigations to bolster logistics.
  • Engage in the planning and execution of program technical reviews and evaluations, which include design reviews, production readiness assessments, quality management system evaluations, MRA/MRL assessments, and configuration audits. This role involves developing quality-related criteria for review processes and ensuring the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Formulate plans and presentations for assigned projects, and create comprehensive documentation for performance, training, and procedures to facilitate production.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of manufacturing processes and production specifications, including familiarity with ASME standards related to drawings (ASME Y14.100/ASME Y14.5) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is advantageous.
