Job Summary

Ombudsman Educational Services, a leading provider of alternative and special education programs, is seeking a highly skilled Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing educational services to students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborative Environment: Provide a collaborative environment for students, parents, center staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Classroom Management: Establish a climate that promotes a firm, fair, and respectful classroom environment, focusing on social development and group responsibility.
  • Behavioral Support: Implement established school-wide and classroom Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, reinforcement systems, behavioral expectations, and consequence guidelines.
  • Student Progress: Record student progress, maintain student files, and prepare reports as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Instructional Support: Provide direct instruction in subjects, work in a team environment to effectively teach collaboratively, and modify curriculum and assist with differentiated instruction for students and staff.
  • Case Management: Act as case manager for special education students, updating IEPs and goals as required.
  • Lesson Planning: Prepare lesson plans and materials for assigned classes.
  • Incident Reporting: Report incidents, maintaining the personal safety of students and adhering to State and Federal law.
  • Center Maintenance: Assist the Site Director in maintaining the physical center, furniture, and supplies in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Professional Development: Keep up-to-date with research-based practices and developments in subject areas, resources, and professional development.
  • Communication: Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a related field.
  • Teaching License: Meet all state teaching license and/or certification requirements.
  • Special Education Certification: Active special education certification.
  • Experience: Prior experience with curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Alternate Education Experience: Prior experience working in an alternate and/or special education program setting preferred.
  • Skills: Solid motivational, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills; willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives; strong oral and written communication skills; highly skilled in working with students with diverse needs.
