Position Overview
The Department of Statistics within the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota is occasionally in search of Teaching Specialists or Instructors to facilitate courses that cannot be covered by regular faculty or graduate students.

Such opportunities may arise for evening and summer sessions, in addition to daytime courses and those offered through Independent and Distance Learning.

The courses primarily consist of introductory or survey material. These roles are temporary and part-time in nature.

This posting does not indicate specific vacancies but serves to create a pool of candidates for potential openings throughout the academic year.

Candidates will be drawn from this pool as needed during the academic year. Appointments may be extended based on necessity, funding availability, and performance evaluations.

Teaching Specialists and Instructors are expected to engage with undergraduate or graduate students in assigned courses, hold office hours for student support and guidance, and participate in relevant departmental meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver lectures
- Supervise teaching assistants
- Maintain office hours
- Submit grades and respond to inquiries from students and the department
- Provide activity reports and attend departmental meetings
- Complete student evaluations.

The candidate should be adaptable to teaching in both in-person and online formats.

Required Qualifications:


For Teaching Specialist: A Master's degree in statistics or a closely related quantitative discipline, along with experience teaching at the college level in Statistics.


For Instructor:
A PhD in Statistics or a closely related field, accompanied by a minimum of six months of teaching experience in an academic setting.
