Job Summary

In collaboration with the healthcare team, this Medical Assistant - Anesthesia Pre-op will assist physicians/providers in the delivery of patient care, working within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant.

Essential Functions
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment or anesthesia interview as applicable.
  • Takes and records patient history and vital signs as applicable.
  • Prepares exam and/or treatment rooms; selects, sets up, and maintains medical supplies and equipment for all examinations, procedures, and/or anesthesia interviews as applicable.
  • Gives injections, applies splints, and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders.
  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including transporting specimens.
  • May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments.
  • May maintain patient files, records, and other information, including entry of data into electronic medical records.
  • May provide phone screening of patients to appropriate clinical staff and/or physicians.
Qualifications
  • Accredited Program Required: Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred.
  • National Medical Assistant Certification required.
Working Conditions
  • Lifting: Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices.
  • Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
