Position Overview:
This role is part of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments.

Applicants must fulfill specific eligibility criteria in line with VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of their appointment.

Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office following a thorough review of the EDRP application.


Travel Requirements:
Relocation expenses will be reimbursed.
Permanent position - Full-time - Security clearance required.
Position sensitivity and risk: Non-sensitive (NS)/Low Risk.

Credentialing:
This position is open to current permanent employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Role Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse will execute clinical responsibilities as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services through various supervisory roles.

The RN will exhibit leadership in delivering nursing care and serve as a role model when designated as team leader or charge nurse under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or their designee.

The Registered Nurse is accountable for managing and delivering care to patients with complex needs, ensuring nursing orders are implemented promptly and accurately.


Key Duties Include:
  • Involving patients, families, and healthcare providers in setting realistic, measurable health education and treatment goals.
  • Addressing individual learning and discharge preparation needs using appropriate resources and educational materials.
  • Documenting the nursing process, including patient education and discharge planning, in a timely manner.
  • Assessing and documenting patient responses to nursing interventions, anticipating potential changes in condition, and adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Updating assessments continuously by recognizing changes in patient needs and reestablishing care priorities.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in the nursing process while caring for patients with complex needs.
  • Guiding and directing other care providers.
  • Participating in established quality improvement initiatives.
  • Conducting self-assessments of performance and identifying personal learning needs.
  • Consulting with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Delegating care efficiently and safely.
  • Performing all other duties as dictated by patient care requirements.

Compensation and Benefits:
Competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards.
Paid Time Off: 50 days annually (including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid Federal holidays).

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Selected candidates will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth.

Experience in med-surg/telemetry is preferred, along with knowledge of telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation.

Minimum 1-3 years of current/recent RN experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing is also preferred.

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided.

The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may need to wear protective clothing in specific situations.

Annual Employee Health requirements, such as TB screening or testing, must be completed as a condition of employment.
