Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Landscape Technician to join our team at Brevard County. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing skilled service work in pest management, cultural practices, and maintenance aspects of sports fields and multiple park landscapes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with area and site supervisors in all phases of best management practices
  • Provide support for irrigation management
  • Perform skilled service work in pest management, cultural practices, and maintenance aspects of sports fields and multiple park landscapes

Requirements:

  • One (1) year certificate from a college or technical school in turfgrass management or comparable field of study
  • Two (2) years of experience in turfgrass management or related area
  • Or three (3) years progressively responsible experience and/or training in turfgrass management and landscape operations

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a variety of outdoor environments, including sports fields and park landscapes
  • May be required to work at heights above/below ground level, in cold, in dampness or chilly conditions, in heat, in high humidity, in or with dusty conditions, in or with moving objects or vehicles, in or with noisy conditions, on or with ladders or scaffolding, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, with chemicals or solvents, with electricity, with feet, legs or hands in water, with fumes, smoke, gases or flames, with grease, with hazardous materials, with lawn grasses, plants, etc., with odors, with oils, with poor lighting, with poor ventilation, with silica, fiberglass, etc., with vibrations (jackhammers, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift: 50 lbs. or more
  • Carry: 50 lbs. or more
  • Pull: 50 lbs. or more
  • Push: 50 lbs. or more
  • Stand: 5 - 8 hours
  • Walk: 5 - 8 hours
  • Sit: 5 - 8 hours
  • Drive: 5 - 8 hours

Education and Experience:

  • One (1) year certificate from a college or technical school in turfgrass management or comparable field of study
  • Two (2) years of experience in turfgrass management or related area
  • Or three (3) years progressively responsible experience and/or training in turfgrass management and landscape operations

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment
  • Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, the Florida Ornamental and Turf Pesticide Applicator license, issued from the Florida Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services
  • Must possess, or obtain within nine (9) months of employment, the Florida Aquatic Pesticide Applicator license, issued from the Florida Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services

Background Investigation:

  • Must pass a Level I background criminal background investigation, performed in accordance with Brevard County Administrative Order 5 (AO-5)

Emergency Duties:

  • May be required to perform emergency duties as directed in the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster which may threaten the area
