Job Summary

This position is located within the Department of Radiology at the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps, Falls Church, VA. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic environment, performing screening and diagnostic mammography imaging on well and diseased breast.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, able to effectively interact with Radiologists, patients, and staff. They will also be responsible for assisting Radiologists with needle localizations, stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies, breast ultrasounds, and MRI biopsies.

The selected candidate will be required to prepare special procedure rooms utilizing sterile techniques and perform Quality Control (QC) testing in accordance with standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform screening and diagnostic mammography imaging on well and diseased breast.
  • Communicate effectively with Radiologists, patients, and staff.
  • Assist Radiologists with needle localizations, stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies, breast ultrasounds, and MRI biopsies.
  • Prepare special procedure rooms utilizing sterile techniques.
  • Perform Quality Control (QC) testing in accordance with standards.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, the selected candidate must meet the certification and education requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations. The selected candidate will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The selected candidate must have a Radiology Certification and/or transcripts. They must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes explaining mammography procedures to patients, relaying patient history to the Radiologist, following quality control programs/guidelines to keep patients and staff safe during procedures, and performing exams such as 2D and 3D Tomosynthesis mammography, mammography special procedures.

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology/Radiography.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirement is at least 100%.

Education

Foreign Education: If the selected candidate is using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, they must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.
