About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our pediatric team at Cooper University Health Care. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a vital role in assessing the psychosocial needs of patients and their families, providing supportive and therapeutic interventions, and advocating for pediatric patients and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and address the psychosocial and developmental needs of patients and families in pediatric units and other areas as needed.
  • Implement and adapt Child Life services and goals to meet the unique needs of each patient and family.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions, such as psychological preparation, procedural support, and bereavement support, to facilitate coping with hospitalization.
  • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed education and emotional support for children about health care encounters, the hospital environment, and new diagnoses or injuries.
  • Document interventions and services in a timely manner within the patient's electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to communicate, educate, and advocate for patient- and family-centered care.
Requirements
  • 0-2 years of experience in Child Life or a related field, with 3-5 years preferred.
  • Certified Child Life Specialist certification required, with the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
