Tissue Processing Technologist

Position Overview: The Surgical Technician/Tissue Processing Technician plays a crucial role in the operating room by ensuring that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and arranged for surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organizes and prepares surgical instruments and supplies in accordance with established protocols.
- Assists in positioning patients on the operating table.
- Maintains a sterile environment by scrubbing hands and arms, and wearing appropriate surgical attire.
- Supports the surgical team in donning sterile gowns and gloves.
- Ensures availability of necessary fluids, including plasma, saline, and blood, during surgical operations.
- Provides instruments and supplies to the surgeon, holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs additional tasks as directed during the procedure.
- Applies dressings to patients post-surgery.
- Conducts counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgeries to ensure nothing is left inside the patient.
- Utilizes germicides and sterilizers to clean and sterilize surgical equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness of the operating room.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist as required by state regulations.
- Preferred: One year of experience as a Surgical Technician or Tissue Processing Technologist.
- Educational background in a biology-related field, including certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
- Adherence to all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
- Current CPR certification, if applicable.
- Completion of TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray, if applicable.
- Current health certificate as per contract or state regulations.
- Compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Strong communication skills with proficiency in the English language.
- Proficiency in computer usage.
- Minimum age requirement of 18 years.
