Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a seasoned Principal Security Engineer to join our growing security team. If you thrive on innovation, this is an exceptional opportunity to make a lasting impact by advancing digital ecosystem security.
We are looking for a talented Principal Security Engineer who excels in combining software and systems engineering to design, build, run, and automate distributed, fault-tolerant security solutions at scale. The successful candidate will ensure that our security controls are effective and efficient, minimizing friction for end users.
This role offers the chance to provide thought leadership, research, and innovation on a broad scale.
Responsibilities
- Exercise a long-term strategic outlook, influencing teams within Security and peer teams.
- Set technology direction and roadmap for developing and continuously improving security controls.
- Lead system and solution design for security controls across the team and ensure design understanding and documentation.
- Optimize security systems for future needs, not just immediate requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve control effectiveness and efficiency and reduce end-user friction.
- Ensure security controls are optimized for ease of use by both security operators and end users.
- Ensure security controls are replaceable with minimal effort.
- Dig deep into complex problems lacking a clear approach or high execution risk and find an appropriate path forward.
- Maintain essential cross-team and cross-functional relationships necessary for team success.
- Be a role model for the team and security organization, shaping the culture.
- Help, teach, and mentor less experienced engineers on the team.
- Define standards and best practices for the team and security organization.
- Improve the quality of team output – code, technical documentation, operational processes.
Ideal Qualifications
The qualifications below are ideal, but not all are required. We encourage candidates to apply if they satisfy some, but not all, of the qualifications.
- 12+ years of experience in security engineering, systems engineering, software engineering, or SRE roles.
- 7+ years experience engineering, running, and automating security controls.
- Strong background securing public cloud technologies, preferably GCP and AWS.
- Strong understanding of cloud security and infrastructure security best practices.
- Experience with security data lakes or SIEM solutions (e.g. Chronicle, Splunk, ElasticSearch).
- Experience with data security, network security, and zero trust access solutions.
- Experience with authentication, authorization, and access control technologies (e.g. IDPs like Okta, AWS/GCP IAM, OIDC, OAuth, etc.).
- Experience in Linux/Unix administration and solid networking knowledge.
- Experience in scripting or software development (i.e. Python, Ruby, Go).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
- The ability to take a systematic approach to analyzing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing system problems to identify, locate, resolve, and repair problems.
- Possess a breadth of engineering skills with an interest in service reliability, automation, monitoring, and capacity planning.
Bonus Experience
- Experience with CI/CD practices and platform tools (Jenkins, CircleCI, Github, etc).
- Experience with Information Security Compliance (SOC, FedRAMP, ISO, etc).
- Industry security certifications, such as GCIH/ECIH, Security+, or related.
Culture Fit
- Must have an obsession for building quality products.
- Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be a team player with a strong, self-managing work ethic.
- Must be a self-starter with a passion for software engineering, learning, and continuous improvement.
Compensation
The annual base salary for this role ranges from $224,000 to $280,948 USD, based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, and geographic location. Company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity, and benefits are available depending on the role.
Benefits
ID.me offers comprehensive medical, dental, vision, health savings account, flexible spending accounts (medical, limited purpose, dependent care, commuter benefit accounts), basic and voluntary life and AD&D insurance, 401(k) with company match, parental leave, unlimited paid time off subject to terms and conditions, including 8 company-wide holidays, short and long-term insurance, accident and critical illness insurance, referral bonus policy, employee assistance program, pet insurance, travel assistant program, wellbeing and childcare discounts, benefit advocates, and a learning and development benefit.
