Position Overview

Child Advocacy & Protection Program

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health

The Department of Pediatrics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health is seeking qualified faculty to contribute to the Ken & Vickie French Child Advocacy and Protection Program (CAPP). We are particularly interested in board-certified child abuse pediatricians, although we also welcome applications from general pediatricians or pediatric specialists who possess experience or a strong commitment to supporting children and adolescents at risk of abuse or neglect. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to lead the program following a suitable transition period.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health provides a comprehensive pediatric service, integrating primary, specialty, and advanced tertiary care. Our facilities include an inpatient pediatric unit with a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at our flagship Children's Hospital. We also operate a robust ambulatory specialty center and multiple pediatric primary care medical homes throughout the region. Our commitment to addressing systemic racism and other forms of oppression ensures that all children and adolescents can achieve their healthiest and happiest lives.

CAPP is a trauma-informed, multidisciplinary initiative that offers thorough assessment and care for children suspected of experiencing maltreatment in Northern New England, collaborating with similar programs in neighboring states. Our services include well-established outpatient clinics and a regional on-call triage system, supported by a dedicated team of advanced practice providers and pediatricians. We provide consultation and training for various stakeholders, including Child Advocacy Centers and Law Enforcement, and engage in advocacy efforts at both institutional and statewide levels.

Teaching responsibilities for pediatric residents and medical students are integral to this role, with faculty appointments at The Geisel School of Medicine available based on experience and academic credentials. Candidates may also engage in scholarly activities across Dartmouth's campuses, including research and quality improvement initiatives.

For those with less experience in child abuse pediatrics, there will be opportunities for skill enhancement under the guidance of the current board-certified child abuse pediatrician. We also support leadership development for candidates interested in advancing systems in child abuse pediatrics and dedicated to quality improvement.

Faculty at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health enjoy the unique advantage of combining high-level academic medicine with a tranquil living environment. The surrounding area offers a wealth of cultural and recreational activities, making it an ideal location for work-life balance.
