Transfusion Medicine Fellowship Opportunity

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for a one-year ACGME-approved Transfusion Medicine fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop expertise in Transfusion Medicine practice, transfusion service management, donor center operations, and laboratory management.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in the daily operation of two hospital-based transfusion services at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital.
- Develop expertise in transfusion reaction work-ups, daily blood component inventory analysis, and special needs consultations.
- Gain practical experience in red cell type and screen procedures, antibody identification, and complex serologic evaluations.
- Collaborate with the transfusion medicine consultation team, including residents in anatomic/clinical pathology and medical students.
- Interact with other services, including hematology, oncology, anesthesiology, pediatrics, surgery, and maternal-fetal medicine.
- Participate in education and instruction on recruitment, donor suitability, blood collection, and donor testing at the UCLA Blood and Platelet Center.
- Rotate through the UCLA Component Processing Laboratory for experience with blood product manufacturing.
- Complete additional rotations through the American Red Cross Reference Laboratory, UCLA Immunogenetics (HLA) Center, Cedars-Sinai Therapeutic Apheresis Center, and City of Hope Apheresis Unit and Stem Cell Processing Laboratory.
- Completion of a US or Canadian ACGME-accredited AP/CP or CP-only residency program.
- Board eligibility or certification.
- California medical license required on day one of appointment.
