Job Description

The Technical Advisor (Telematics) plays a critical role in ensuring Toyota Material Handling's forklifts and components comply with all regulations relating to wireless transmitters. This involves working with agencies such as the FCC and ISED (Canada) as well as various cellular carriers. The ideal candidate will contribute significantly towards achieving product certification and compliance by developing and executing comprehensive certification and compliance programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate and maintain a critical and in-depth understanding of current and upcoming regulations.
  • Support all aspects of compliance including requirements, risk assessments, design, testing, labeling, and remediation.
  • Translate regulations to technical and business requirements.
  • Monitor changes to regulatory requirements, evaluate potential impact, and communicate relevant information to internal stakeholders.
  • Distinguish between regulatory, process, product planning, and business risks to formulate and prioritize responses and risk mitigation in close collaboration with different departments.
  • Lead process development and continuous process improvement activities necessary to remain compliant with different regulations.
  • Formulate responses to queries from different agencies.
  • Support the development and provide input to the training plan to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop detailed plans for regular audits at different departments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strategic and tactical partnerships with agencies.
  • Maintain accountability for agency-related correspondence including applications, audits, and renewals for certification and listing programs.
  • Participate in and represent Toyota Material Handling in Industry Associations and standards development committees.
  • Provide technical support to the corporate legal staff or outside legal counsel on possible product problems and claims.
  • Maintain and enhance communication and collaboration among Toyota Material Handling, TINA, TICO, and regulatory agencies while ensuring privacy and compliance.
  • Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams within Toyota Material Handling to ensure product compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with the Company's Compliance group.
  • Provide relevant technical support on Toyota Material Handling products, and policies to these inter-company teams.
Requirements
  • Relevant post-secondary degree (e.g., Engineering, Environmental, Design, or similar field).
  • Strong commitment to compliance.
  • Experience working with cellular carriers (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon) on product certification.
  • Strong Knowledge of FCC and ISED regulations.
  • Proven track record of achieving successful compliance outcomes, remediating compliance issues, and supporting regulatory inspections.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and training team members.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and make connections between regulatory compliance scenarios and Toyota Material Handling business priorities.
  • Strong technical experience, capability of process mapping and improvement, and willingness to work hands-on in cross-functional teams to drive identified improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to summarize technical issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and drive, with an ability to lead multiple projects and initiatives in parallel.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively on compliance topics with different departments.
  • Self-motivated individual, passionate about creating sustainable change.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Environmental, Design, or similar field.
  • 5+ years' work experience in product certification or related field.
  • Certification(s) in cyber security (CISSP, CEH, CISA, CISM, or equivalent).
