Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Bakery Cake Decorator to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our bakery team, you will be responsible for creating and decorating cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items that meet our high standards of quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cake Decorating and Production: Assemble, fill, and finish/decorate cakes, tarts, select pastry, and special-order bakery items to meet business demand.
  • Quality Control: Complete production and spoilage records according to standard procedures, adjusting production sheets to maintain sufficient product.
  • Inventory Management: Prioritize production lists and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Visual Merchandising: Merchandise and showcase products in the sales display case to satisfy and delight customers.
  • Team Support: Provide guidance and support for bakery decorator apprentices and other team members.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service, addressing customers' needs in a timely and effective manner.
  • Sanitation and Safety: Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment.
  • Opening and Closing Duties: Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signage and pricing.
Requirements
  • Cake Decorating Skills: Efficient cake and pastry decorating skills, including intermediate piping techniques and the ability to create decorative flowers and borders.
  • Color Theory: Understand color theory as it pertains to blending buttercream colors and coordinating complementing palettes.
  • Recipe Knowledge: Ability to follow recipes, directions, and procedures; effective time management and organization skills.
  • Math Skills: Basic math skills for recipe conversions and modifications.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand/walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday, and work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience.
  • Training: Complete the bakery decorator apprentice training program, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous Experience: Prior experience within a professional bakery or grocery retail, preferred.
