Job Summary:

As a Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, you will play a critical role in creating a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth in our care. You will provide guidance, support, and structure to our detained youth, modeling and reinforcing pro-social behaviors such as patience, empathy, cooperation, professionalism, and respect. As a shift supervisor, you will oversee the work assignments of subordinate staff and ensure the custody, security, and care of youth are maintained through adherence to policies and standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for the custody, security, and care of youth through adherence to policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain order and discipline by intervening with youth through active supervision and controlling inappropriate youth behavior.
  • Supervise and plan the work of assigned staff.
  • Complete administrative paperwork, prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports.
  • Develop work and security procedures.
  • Supervise contraband searches and inspections, maintain physical control of logs, keys, tools, weapons, and related equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of, comply with, and enforce all facility policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.
  • Provide support in training, selecting, and orienting subordinate staff.

Requirements:

High school diploma/GED and one year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP222) or equivalent. Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification within the first six months of employment. Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current and valid certification as a Juvenile Correctional Officer by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council.
  • One or more years of experience in a Juvenile Justice environment.
  • Completion of one or more years of college.

Military Salary Increase Incentive Amount:

  • 2.5% for one year of active duty service.
  • 5% for two years of active duty service.
  • 7.5% for three years of active duty service.
  • 10% for 4+ years of active duty service.
