Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking an Early Career Water Resources Engineer to join our team in Herndon, VA. As a member of our Earth and Environment Team, you will work with an experienced water resources engineering team supporting the FEMA PTS contract.
Key Responsibilities- Provide local technical assistance for the analysis, development, and design of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, pollution control and treatment, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of water resources.
- Generate accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
- Under general supervision, perform flood risk analysis, mapping, and related services on FEMA projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Northeast U.S. regions.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
- 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
- Successful completion of coursework in hydraulics and hydrology.
- Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with the concepts of professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply, quality, management, and treatment for various end uses – recreationally, commercially, and/or industrially.
- Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Masters Degree or PhD in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Experience using HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), HEC-HMS, HEC-SSP, and ArcGIS software.
- Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
- A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
