Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pipe Welding Instructor to join our Training Department at General Dynamics Electric Boat. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing and training students in various welding-related courses, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruct and train students in welding-related classroom courses, including Workmanship, MDD-01464, and Safety Briefs.
  • Direct and assess hands-on training with practice and tests, ensuring students meet the required standards.
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations in training and during deck plate audits, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Assess student performance and identify nonconformance to policies, procedures, and technical documents, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Support various course content reviews and related activities, ensuring the curriculum remains up-to-date and relevant.
  • Conduct assessments as scheduled, evaluating student progress and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Meet with HR Business Partners regarding student performance as needed, providing regular updates and insights.
  • Consistently grade tests and quizzes to ensure knowledge capture and understanding of training topics, maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Communicate with other Training shifts to advance work and communicate issues, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Support special training projects as required, adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Support the Training department goals and objectives, taking on additional responsibilities as assigned to ensure the success of the team.
  • Support QP's development and implementation of the Lifting and Handling ALC Active Learning center, contributing to the growth and development of the Training Department.
Requirements
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of Pipe Welding Trade experience, with a strong understanding of welding processes and techniques.
  • Possess a High school diploma, with a certificate, associate's, or advanced degree preferred.
  • Be able to qualify for respiratory protection as required, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possess a Certificate, Associate's, or advanced degree in a related field, such as welding technology or education.
  • Prior experience teaching or instructing in a classroom setting, with a strong ability to lead and direct students.
  • Experience with AWPSS, VT acceptance criteria MDD-01464, and other relevant software and systems.
Skills
  • Have a strong ability to prioritize and complete multiple complex tasks and projects, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Have a strong ability to lead and direct in a classroom environment, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong ability to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a strong ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Have a strong commitment to teaching others and leading student classes, with a passion for education and training.
  • Have a demonstrated commitment to customer-service, safety, and procedure compliance, with a strong ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Have a willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities and duties as needed, with a strong ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
