Responsibilities:
Each individual is responsible for performing only those waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, Business & Prof.
Code Section 1204, and must possess a level of skill commensurate with their education, training, or experience and technical abilities.
Responsibilities include:1) Adhering to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
2) Following established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications. 3) Identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correcting the issue or promptly notifying the supervisor, Director, or Medical Director. 4) Performing a variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline introduced into the laboratory. 5) Conducting and documenting maintenance on instruments and equipment as needed. 6) Reviewing the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting. 7) Recognizing age-specific differences in expected results for patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics. 8) Ensuring proficiency testing samples are handled in the same manner as patient samples, prohibiting collaboration with other laboratories prior to reporting proficiency testing results to the appropriate agencies. 9) Performing venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups as required. 10) Assisting in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures. 11) Adhering to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources. 12) In the absence of a supervisor, may be designated as Lead Tech, responsible for the section or department during their shift. 13) May have responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC. 14) Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
ASCP certification or equivalent is required.
A minimum of two years of hospital laboratory experience is necessary.
A Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA (42 CFR
A current and valid State License is required if the laboratory is located in a state where necessary.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $41.46 to $55.80.
The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, considering a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
