Building Code Enforcement Division Manager

The Building Code Enforcement Division Manager is a key member of the Department's senior leadership team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Building Code Enforcement Division. This role involves managing a team of over 80 staff members, including the County Building Official, building and trade plan reviewers, inspectors, and administrative staff.
Key Responsibilities- Direct management of up to 6 employees, including the Building Official, plan review and inspection program administrators, and administrative staff.
- Manage staff performance to ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures of the Department and the County.
- Oversee the Division Budget and work with the Leadership Team on overall budget and resource needs.
- Promote staff growth and professional development, including encouraging participation in local, state, and federal organizations involved in establishing and enforcing building and trade codes.
- Ensure staff obtain and remain current with state-mandated certifications.
- Plan, direct, and manage a high volume of activities and operations of the plan review and inspection programs.
- Analyze data to ensure timely plan reviews and inspections, establish, and track other applicable performance measures.
- Prepare statistical reports in support of divisional performance evaluation and budget preparation.
- Promote the use of technology to complete daily building code plan reviews and inspections.
- Manage divisional building code-related responses to members of the Board, County Administration leadership, and the public.
- Manage division assets and oversee the hiring and onboarding of new staff.
The ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, excellent leadership and supervisory skills, support continuous learning, provide great customer service, and foster a team environment. Maintaining synergy between the internal Code plan review and inspection work groups, the Permits Division, Fire Marshal's Office, and the Planning and Zoning Enforcement team is paramount.
The candidate must be proficient at speaking to elected boards and commissions as well as being comfortable speaking with professionals in the business community and with citizens. Applicants should demonstrate they can solve problems and resolve conflicts and have a working knowledge of policies and regulations (local, state, and federal) surrounding the building code regulations.
