Job Summary

The Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at Portland State University is responsible for the overall management of the Student Financial Aid and Scholarships office. This includes funds management, Federal, State, and local reporting, policy development and analysis, scholarship administration, compliance oversight, and processing operations. The Director will direct administration and compliance of $220 million on an annual basis in federal, state, and institutional aid and scholarships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 23 staff and 10-15 student employees in the Student Financial Aid and Scholarships office.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for financial aid and scholarship administration.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines.
  • Manage the office's annual operating budget of $2.1 million.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management Leadership Team, colleges/schools, athletics, advancement, and other departments to promote student success and a positive public relations image for Portland State University.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three to five years of successful experience in Financial Aid at the Director or Associate Director level.
  • Demonstrated leadership of a diverse unit of financial aid and scholarship professionals.
  • Prior responsibility for audit management, program certification, and ensuring compliance.
  • Experience with automated disbursement and tracking through Financial Aid software and knowledge of current applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or doctoral degree preferred.
  • Financial Aid leveraging and modeling experience.
  • Scholarship administration experience.
  • Ellucian Banner experience preferred.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be dependent upon qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare, a generous retirement and vacation package, and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse, or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
