About the Position
  • Conduct hearings to decide issues regarding reemployment assistance benefits and liability
  • Take leadership to ensure hearings achieve fair and timely resolutions
  • Research and analyze laws, regulations, policies, evidence, and precedent decisions to prepare for hearings and determine conclusions
Key Responsibilities
  • Appeals Hearings Activities:
    • Take all evidence under oath
    • Determine the order of testimony
    • Develop the hearing record
    • Control disruptive parties
    • Rule on objections to evidence
    • Rule on all oral or written motions filed
  • Decision Writing Activities:
    • Issue a written decision on each case
    • Use proper grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure in composing decisions
    • Prepare decisions promptly to meet federal time-lapse standards
  • Prehearing and Scheduling Activities:
    • Review each assigned case file
    • Determine the issues involved
    • Compile the evidence
    • Schedule the hearing and prepare for the scheduled hearing
    • Ruling on pre-hearing motions
Requirements
  • Juris Doctorate
  • Must be an attorney with good standing with the Florida Bar or be successfully admitted to the Florida Bar within eight months after start date
