A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A YOUTH SUPPORT SPECIALIST
As a Youth Support Specialist, you will have the fulfilling responsibility of providing direct care to the children in our program. You will collaborate with the youth to establish routines, foster positive relationships, and develop a supportive framework for their future. Acting as a mentor, you will deliver exceptional daily living assistance tailored to each youth's needs. This includes setting up foundational services, aiding with applications and homework, and facilitating effective communication.
Your role will also involve conducting daily activities designed for the youth based on their developmental stages and abilities. You will ensure safety at all times, implement behavior-shaping interventions, and model effective problem-solving strategies. When necessary, you will apply trauma-informed care (TIC) approaches and provide support for maladaptive behaviors stemming from trauma. Your empathy will shine through in your interactions with each participant, and you will maintain accurate records of daily activities and services in compliance with quality assurance and state licensing standards. Making a positive impact in the lives of youth will give you a profound sense of purpose in your direct care role.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A YOUTH SUPPORT SPECIALIST / COUNSELOR
- A Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of experience in mental health, social services, or a related field OR two or more years of relevant experience.
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
