Department Overview: The BAR - Customer Service department is dedicated to assisting patients with inquiries and concerns related to professional and hospital billing. This role involves conducting account research, verifying balances, and providing patient support while ensuring compliance with billing policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with questions regarding their billing and account status.
  • Perform thorough account research and balance verification.
  • Manage activities related to the collection of self-pay accounts.
  • Initiate patient disputes and authorize the movement of patient balances within the billing system.
  • Collaborate with patients, insurance follow-up teams, third-party payers, and clinical departments to optimize collections.
  • Utilize independent judgment to prioritize assigned tasks effectively.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare billing, collections, or medical office settings is required. A four-year degree may substitute for three years of experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Fair Debt Collection Practices Act guidelines and medical coding (CPT/ICD10).
  • Experience with Epic billing systems is advantageous.
  • Coding certification is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and achieve successful outcomes in a collaborative environment.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently.

Work Environment: This position requires handling confidential and sensitive information while maintaining professionalism in high-stress situations, particularly when discussing and collecting payments.

Compensation:

Minimum Pay Rate: Hourly: $15.45

Midpoint Pay Rate: Hourly: $19.65
