About the Role:

The Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at UCLA Health is seeking a highly skilled Cyclotron Operator - Research Development Engineer to play a pivotal role in advancing cutting-edge radiopharmaceutical research.

This position involves operating and maintaining state-of-the-art cyclotrons, including a brand-new PETTraceTM 800, while supporting clinical and pre-clinical teams in their daily activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the radiosynthesis, quality control, and packaging of clinical radiotracers
  • Manage the chemical aspects of radioactive compound production
  • Assist in the development of innovative, radioactively-labeled compounds
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety, laboratory safety, and quality control protocols

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of general chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and radiochemistry
  • Knowledge of principles of radiation protection
  • Skill in manipulating chemical and electro-mechanical devices
  • Ability to perform complex manipulative tasks under pressure
  • Ability to handle complex electromechanical control systems
  • Ability to follow schematic drawings and break them into block diagram form
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic tools and test equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and vendors
  • Knowledge of radioactive procedures and protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and logs
