Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our team at Bexar County, TX. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for supervising professional and technical employees in the development, design, construction, and maintenance of public works projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare technical reports and reviews comments regarding engineering studies, construction plans, and specifications
  • Conduct field investigations to evaluate engineering problems and recommend solutions
  • Review plans, studies, reports, and permits for compliance with the appropriate code and engineering design standards
  • Coordinate development of project designs with contractors, utility companies, land owners, developers, governmental agencies, and the general public
  • Provide information regarding drainage/flood plain issues, roadway plans, traffic studies/warrants, and subdivision platting to County personnel and the general public
  • Advises other Public Works sections on matters related to technical engineering issues
  • Evaluate traffic signals, traffic detection systems, street lighting, school flashers, traffic signs, pavement markings, traffic data collection, and traffic safety through communication/interaction with various entities
  • Supervise traffic program and project development for all traffic modes, neighborhood/arterial traffic operations, high collision analysis, traffic operations, investigation, and implementation activities, and traffic project design delivery
  • Recommend and monitor contractors/consultants assigned to installation/maintenance of traffic signals, traffic video systems, street lighting, school flashers, traffic signs, pavement markings, and traffic data collection
  • May require the need to respond to emergency situations
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering discipline, and four (4) years' practical engineering experience including two (2) years' civil engineering experience
  • Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or obtain within the first six months of employment
  • Must have a valid Class C Texas driver's license
  • Considerable knowledge of civil engineering practices and procedures involving traffic, roadway, and bridge plan design and/or flood plain management
  • Skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to supervise technical and skilled employees; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to operate personal computer, peripherals, cellular phone, and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, Elected/Appointed Officials, outside agencies, the news media, and the public
