Job Overview

POSITION TITLE: Gym Monitor/Sports Official

REPORTS TO: Program Director or designated supervisor

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Under the guidance of the assigned supervisor, the Gym Monitor/Sports Official is tasked with overseeing the gymnasium and associated sports apparatus. This role includes officiating youth sports events as required. The individual will also ensure the cleanliness of the gym during and post-events, which includes tasks such as dust mopping the floor and disposing of any leftover waste as needed. All personnel are expected to collaborate effectively with colleagues to fulfill the YMCA's mission and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not an exhaustive list):

  1. Implement and uphold all policies set forth by the YMCA for members, participants, and staff.
  2. Act as a representative of the sports department in the absence of the sports director.
  3. Officiate youth sports events throughout the designated season.
  4. Welcome and guide participants to their designated areas.
  5. Ensure that sports-related information is current and accurate.
  6. Assist the Welcome Desk by addressing inquiries related to sports.
  7. Maintain punctuality and reliability for scheduled shifts as determined by the supervisor.
  8. Promote upcoming sports initiatives to families.
  9. Conduct all responsibilities with Integrity, Compassion, Respect, and Accountability; the core values of the YMCA.
  10. Report any issues, complaints, or concerns from members or participants to the supervisor without delay.
  11. Address any inappropriate conduct that may occur.

Qualifications:

Mandatory:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to interact positively with others.
  • Experience in sports or physical education management.
  • Educational background in sports or physical education is preferred.
  • Current certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid/O2.

Desirable:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Exceptional verbal communication abilities.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
