Family Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled Family Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems. As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will provide medical and surgical care to a specific patient population under the supervision of physician(s).
Key Responsibilities- Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services, as delegated by a physician.
- Perform histories and physicals, order and interpret tests, make preliminary diagnoses, treat injuries and illnesses, assist with surgical procedures, counsel patients, and prescribe medication.
- Work collaboratively with the medical team to deliver organized, timely, cost-effective, and quality patient care.
- Supervise support staff and provide patient care under defined departmental and state-approved scope of practice and under the supervision of an attending physician(s).
- Demonstrate mastery of treatment and patient care of the specialty population served.
- Assess the health status of individuals through health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, prioritize therapeutic interventions, and document patient information.
- Provide patient education, counseling, and support to promote optimum levels of health.
- Function as a consultant to other healthcare professionals regarding routine and unusual therapeutic interventions.
- Collaborate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the multi-disciplinary plan of care for complex patients.
- Provide training to residents, fellows, and other healthcare staff in the area of specialty.
- Utilize current research to develop, implement, and evaluate critical paths and standards of care for identified patient populations.
- Contribute to the profession through participation in research, publications, consultation, and educational activities.
- Incorporate clinical judgment in ethical decision-making.
- Practice the principles of ethics in decision-making for patients.
- Promote the use of interdisciplinary collaborative processes to resolve ethical dilemmas.
- Seek out opportunities for professional growth through organizational affiliations.
- Function in collaborative relationships with physicians, allied health professionals, and administration.
- Assess own learning needs and develop and implement a plan for professional growth.
- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant Program.
- Current Virginia licensure from the appropriate Board as a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant.
- Current national certification as appropriate for role.
- Credentialing in accordance with medical staff by-laws for specific job title.
- Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
- Three (3) years of previous clinical experience with the population served.
- Previous experience in an academic healthcare system.
