Physician Assistant Role in Correctional Health

We are seeking a skilled Part-Time Physician Assistant to join our team at Rikers Island in East Elmhurst, NY. The successful candidate will provide primary care to patients in jail-based clinics and work as part of a care delivery team with strong administrative support staff.
This is an excellent opportunity for a physician assistant to promote an academic practice environment with ample opportunities for continuous education, clear pathways for career growth, and engagement of front-line staff in the ongoing process of improving clinical care.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, some previous work experience, and be certified as a State of New York Certified Physician's Assistant and certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants.
Responsibilities:
- Completes comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses.
- Evaluates the need for consult services and submits prioritized consults when indicated.
- Reviews all on-island/off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns.
- Evaluates recommendations to ensure standard of care is met and implements consultant recommendations.
- Responds to emergencies and fire drills in a timely and professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree; some previous work experience required.
- State of New York Certified Physician's Assistant; certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants.
Salary: $62.57 - $77.53 hourly, with competitive compensation package, including choice of three tiered medical plans starting day one, excellent dental insurance, generous paid time off program, commuter benefits, and more.
