Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Water Quality Specialist to join our team at the City of New York. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for conducting investigations and inspections of building water supply and distribution systems to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental sampling and water quality analysis of building water supply and distribution systems
  • Review building maintenance programs and plans for cooling tower systems to ensure compliance
  • Prepare reports and recommendations based on findings of field investigations
  • Educate building owners and managers on best practices for managing cooling towers and water systems
  • Counsel facility owners and operators on regulations and remedial measures
  • Participate in the development of standard operating procedures and conduct field surveys
  • Review plans, drawings, and specifications for building water supply and distribution systems
Requirements
  • Masters degree in environmental or chemical engineering, limnology, environmental science, marine science, geology, biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, or health science
  • Or baccalaureate degree with 24 semester credits in one or a combination of the above areas and at least one year of experience in water quality planning, management, or research
  • Or associate degree with 24 semester credits in one or a combination of the above areas and at least three years of experience
Preferred Skills
  • Academic background in environmental or chemical engineering, limnology, environmental science, marine science, geology, biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, or health science
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
