Job Title: Water Systems Operation Specialist Apprentice

Join the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in enriching the environment and protecting public health for all New Yorkers. As a Water Systems Operation Specialist Apprentice, you will be part of a 24-month NYS Registered Apprenticeship program, working directly with Watershed Maintainers to learn the operation, maintenance, and inspection of equipment, water treatment facilities, watershed areas, reservoirs, and aqueducts systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain facilities and operate field and water treatment specific equipment
  • Repair facilities, lands, roads, bridges, dams, and other structures using hand or power tools, machine tools, and industrial power equipment
  • Collect water samples and perform water quality-related analysis
  • Record readings of equipment using data recording equipment
  • Perform basic calculations and maintain control room and equipment logs
  • Operate motor vehicles, snow removal equipment, and other powered equipment
  • Clean and maintain facility grounds, structures, and equipment
Requirements:
  • Good physical condition
  • Ability to wear a respirator while performing essential functions
  • Valid New York State driver's license
  • Preferred skills: trades or related work experience, military, vocational/trade school, or general work experience
Benefits:
  • Starting salary: $18.00/hour, increasing to $21.05/hour in the second year

Work Environment:

Varies locations outside of NYC, including Westchester, Sullivan, Ulster, Delaware, Greene, and Orange Counties
