Position Summary / Career Interest:
The University of Kansas Health System is seeking motivated professionals to join our expanding Cardiovascular Ultrasound team. We offer various levels of positions based on your experience, welcoming new graduates to apply. Our focus is on cardiac and cardiovascular sonographer roles.

Sonographers deliver expert, safe, and compassionate care to both adolescent and adult patients. They are specially trained in advanced ultrasound physics and hemodynamics, enabling them to produce high-quality images that address clinical inquiries.

Our laboratory holds accreditation from IAC in Echocardiography and Vascular, supporting programs in structural heart, adult congenital, cardiology sports, research, amyloid, heart failure, transplant, and LVAD.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Conducts basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound services for adult patients, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress procedures to diagnose and evaluate cardiac conditions.
  • General responsibilities include preparing equipment, preparing patients, explaining procedures, interpreting images, reporting findings, and analyzing patient clinical history to tailor each examination to the individual.
  • Serves as an educational resource for staff, physicians, students, and fellows regarding equipment, techniques, and procedures to enhance patient care.
  • Seeks and implements new strategies to elevate patient care quality as technology advances, actively participating in meetings, quality assurance, and IAC activities as directed by the medical and/or technical director.
  • Must be available for occasional on-call duties under Cardiologist supervision, weekend coverage, and later shifts as required.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, showcasing sound judgment.
  • Must be capable of performing the professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
Required Licensure and Certification
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) must be completed or in progress and credentialed. Certification must be obtained within 3 months of hire.
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) must be completed or in progress and credentialed. Certification must be obtained within 3 months of hire.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire
  • Maintain CME requirements
Knowledge Requirements
  • Ability to train in areas of competency
  • Graduate of a CAAHEP; JRC-DMS program in cardiac ultrasound preferred.
  • Training or certification in IV and LVO contract administration preferred.
