Responsibilities

The Senior Estate Planning attorney will be responsible for:

  • Executing case strategy with associate attorneys, paralegals, clients, and support staff.
  • Managing complex estate and tax planning, including drafting estate planning instruments such as wills and trusts and filing gift tax returns.
  • Managing complex probate and trust administration matters, including overseeing the entire administration process and preparing federal and state estate tax returns.
  • Researching complex tax issues.
  • Managing their own caseload.
  • Keeping clients informed by maintaining regular contact, communicating case progress, working with Certified Public Accounts, Financial Advisors, insurance brokers, beneficiaries, and other legal counsel.
  • Providing mentorship to associate attorneys.
  • Attending business development and networking functions with firm leadership and solo.
Qualifications
  • At least 8 years' experience practicing estate planning in Oregon.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex estate and tax planning.
  • An active Oregon State Bar membership.
  • Washington State Bar membership, a plus.
  • A LLM in tax planning, a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional client service skills, including the ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Detail-oriented and set high standards for accuracy.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft 365.
  • Experience preparing and filing estate tax returns (federal and state) and gift tax returns.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all employee and company information.
  • Ability to handle a heavy caseload.
  • Dependable.
  • Willing to supervise staff and attorneys within practice group.
