Role Summary:
The Accounts Receivable Specialist is tasked with managing patient billing processes and ensuring timely collection of payments from patients and their insurance companies.
Primary Duties:
Prepares and dispatches invoices for insurance claims and private payments. Serves as a point of contact between patients and their health insurance providers. Upholds a high standard of professionalism while complying with all relevant debt collection laws. Gathers and verifies patient insurance details. Proactively reaches out to clients/patients regarding outstanding bills and account statuses. Communicates with insurance firms to check the progress of submitted claims. Investigates and resolves reasons for claim denials. Exemplifies Service Excellence Standards and Principles.Stakeholders: Patients, guarantors, healthcare staff, patients' families, external agencies, referral sources, and third-party payers.
Essential Skills and Competencies:
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Self-motivated and proactive approach.
- Capability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with managed care, commercial, and state agency billing protocols.
- Decision-making skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
- Proficient in using computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, calculators, printers, copiers, fax machines, and multi-line phone systems.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
None required.
Experience:
- At least one year of experience in hospital billing is required.
- Preferred experience with managed care and state agency billing.
- Experience with per-diem billing and adjustment calculations is a plus.
- Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand movements for typing, writing, and using calculators.
- Frequent use of telephone and computer (approximately 5-8 hours daily).
- Adequate hearing and vision to perform essential job functions.
- Ability to work under daily stress.
- Capability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and grasping.
- Emotional stability is essential for performing job functions.
- Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
