Position Overview:
The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is in search of a dedicated individual to join our team as an Ecological Research Scientist I. This role is integral to our ongoing research initiatives and will involve significant fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will engage in extensive field ecology activities, necessitating extended stays at designated research sites during critical data collection periods. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with fellow researchers to gather and manage ecological data.
- Conducting fieldwork focused on plant ecology, which requires proficient plant identification skills.
- Maintaining and managing experimental field infrastructure and conducting various ecological sampling methods.
- Participating in the collection and analysis of data to ensure quality and integrity.
Physical Requirements:
The role demands physical endurance, including the ability to hike in challenging environments while carrying necessary equipment. Candidates should be prepared for physically demanding tasks.
Qualifications:
Minimum: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. No prior experience is necessary, but educational qualifications may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred: A BS or MS degree, familiarity with local flora, and experience in field botany and ecological data management.
