Position: Manufacturing Cost Analyst
Role Overview:
- Cost Evaluation and Reporting: Conduct thorough analysis of production expenses and present findings to management.
- Gather and interpret cost data related to production, offering insights for strategic decision-making.
- Facilitate cost re-evaluation by updating rates for raw materials, labor, and overhead.
- Work closely with the Supply Chain and Estimating teams on cost-related inquiries.
- Investigate and report on monthly costs associated with poor quality, including scrap and warranty claims.
- Identify primary cost drivers and propose strategies for cost optimization, including root cause analysis for significant variances.
- Benchmark cost performance against industry standards.
- System Development and Process Improvement:
- Establish and enhance costing systems and procedures.
- Continuously refine costing methodologies to adapt to evolving business requirements.
- Regularly assess and update standard costs to ensure accuracy.
- Document cost accounting practices and ensure compliance with internal controls.
- Collaborate with IT to enhance ERP functionalities.
- Budgeting and Financial Forecasting:
- Contribute to the preparation of the annual operating budget for the plant.
- Develop standard product costs and analyze budgeted variances.
- Inventory Management:
- Ensure adherence to internal control measures.
- Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in financial reporting.
- Assist in conducting physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
- Annual Audit Support:
- Assist in the financial audit process, including managing annual physical inventory procedures and providing necessary documentation.
- Collaborate with external consultants for R&D Credit analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience in accounting within a manufacturing setting, with a focus on cost accounting.
- Strong proficiency in inventory management and job costing analysis.
- Demonstrated capability to oversee all aspects of cost accounting.
- Experience with ERP systems is essential, with a preference for SAP.
- Excellent analytical skills, particularly in relation to cost data and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with GAAP, inventory flow, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is beneficial.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and a commitment to identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Education:
- A relevant degree in finance, accounting, or business is preferred but not mandatory.
- CMA Certification is advantageous but not required.
