POSITION OVERVIEW
The Walker School is in search of a dedicated individual for the Upper School Social Studies role who possesses a genuine enthusiasm for education and a commitment to student engagement.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate creativity and innovation in their teaching methods, excel in collaborative environments, and embody empathy and curiosity. They will foster student-centered classrooms that promote discussion and meaningful connections with learners.
The teaching responsibilities include four sections (two sections of Modern World History and two sections of US History), with class sizes varying.
Preference will be given to applicants willing to contribute to the broader school community through coaching or advising extracurricular activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
The perfect candidate will be dynamic, imaginative, and committed to inspiring a passion for social studies among high school students.
They should possess a growth mindset, be receptive to feedback, and exemplify lifelong learning in both their pedagogical practices and subject matter expertise.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as a grade-level advisor for a group of 10–15 students
Be available for student support from 3:15–3:45 each afternoon
Fulfill necessary supervisory duties (such as lunchroom and carpool supervision, chaperoning events, etc.) as required
Engage in parent-teacher conferences and other necessary meetings
Participate in admission-related activities (e.g., Open Houses) as needed
Contribute to the school community by coaching or advising extracurricular programs
CORE REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor's degree is mandatory. A Master's degree or additional coursework is preferred.
Proven excellence in upper school-level instruction
Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
Willingness and ability to incorporate technology into teaching and skill development
A desire to be an active and vibrant member of the faculty
