Medical Office Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Office Assistant to join our team at Mount Sinai Medical Center. As a Medical Office Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing clinical and administrative support to our physicians and surgeons.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in patient care responsibilities, including performing venipuncture and EKGs, checking schedules, and organizing patient flow.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms, assist with walking, transferring, and dressing, and collect and process specimens and point-of-care testing.
- Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families, and answer calls and provide pertinent information.
- Fulfill clerical responsibilities, including sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions as needed.
- Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.
- Inventory, order, or restock medical supplies as applicable.
- Provide set-up of examination rooms and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques.
- Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point-of-care testing, and sterilization processes.
- Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies and dispose of them appropriately.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
- Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, Op Reports, test results, and home care forms.
- May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinators to verify times with patients and prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms.
- May perform proficient phlebotomy duties, medical transcription, appointment scheduling, and registration for patients.
- May maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules and check and verify insurance information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Three to nine months of healthcare experience preferred.
- Venipuncture and EKG skills required.
- Certificate of Medical Assistant training or equivalent.
- Heartsaver Certification from American Heart Association and/or BCLS.
