Job Summary

The County of Los Angeles, CA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Park Superintendent I, Tribal Liaison to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective relationships between the County and California Native American tribes and tribal communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies and programs that promote tribal engagement and collaboration.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for tribal liaison activities, including consultation, outreach, and education.
  • Build and maintain relationships with tribal leaders, government officials, and community members.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between the County and tribal communities on various projects and initiatives.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to County staff on tribal-related matters.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance County staff's understanding of tribal cultures, protocols, and sovereignty.
  • Collaborate with other County departments to ensure compliance with tribal laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with tribal organizations and community groups.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to County leadership on tribal liaison activities and progress.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in the development and implementation of nature-related programs.
  • One year of experience in coordinating the development and implementation of plans between organizations and tribal communities on projects, initiatives, or policy matters.
  • Knowledge of tribal protocols, cultures, sovereignty, and government relations.
  • Experience working with tribal governments on projects, initiatives, or policy matters.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field, such as environmental science, natural resources management, or tribal governance.
  • Experience working in a government agency or non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge of California Assembly Bill 52 and its implications for tribal communities.
  • Fluency in a Native American language.
