About the Position

We are seeking a highly qualified Instructor of Semitic Languages to join our team at the University of South Carolina. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching introductory through advanced Arabic language courses in Modern Standard Arabic and conversation classes in an Arabic dialect (Egyptian or Levantine preferred).

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach Arabic language courses at the collegiate level, including introductory through advanced courses in Modern Standard Arabic and conversation classes in an Arabic dialect.
  • Maintain an excellent record of teaching and actively engage in various instructional responsibilities.
  • Participate fully in program affairs and services, including curriculum development and assessment.
  • May be assigned service duties, dependent upon the applicant's experience and departmental needs.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Semitic Languages, Arabic, or a related field, in hand by the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of two years of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level of Arabic as a foreign language.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic and at least one Arabic dialect (Egyptian or Levantine preferred) and English.
  • Ability to teach Hebrew is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Semitic Languages, Arabic or a related field.
  • Ability to also teach Hebrew and Biblical Hebrew strongly desired.
