Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Assistant II to join our team at Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH). The successful candidate will be responsible for the registration and insurance verification of specimens received by MGPO Dermatopathology Associates, as well as the accessioning of specimens according to approved protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Registration of patients for all dermatopathology services provided at 2 Wells Avenue, including insurance verification and provision of a Medical Record Number using EPIC.
  • Accurate input of patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Obtaining missing essential data for specimen processing and billing, including contacting clients to obtain necessary information.
  • Accessioning specimens according to approved protocol, including creation and printing of bar code labels and casettes for specimen tracking.
  • Proof-reading registration and accession materials generated by coworkers and self-audit.
  • Distribution of specimens to appropriate locations, packaging and tracking of consult slides and/or blocks to originating provider, ensuring HIPAA guidelines are followed.
  • Photocopying requisitions for billing/compliance and participating in billing inquiries as requested.
  • Answering telephone and troubleshooting registration and insurance issues to support proper billing.
  • Filing of slides and blocks for proper storage, including scanning all slides into storage and maintaining meticulous maintenance and day-to-day practice of slide storage by case number and year.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Absolute integrity and confidentiality with handling of patients' specimens.
  • Attention to detail and precision in performing clerical tasks.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience using CoPath and EPIC preferred.
  • Ability to read and write English and type 40-60 words per minute.
  • Ability to multi-task and work accurately under stress of workload demand.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with clients.
  • Works well in a team environment.
