Job Title: Behavioral Intervention Technician

Join the California Department of Education team as a Behavioral Intervention Technician, playing a vital role in supporting students with behavioral and mental health needs.

About the Role

This position involves working with students, teachers, and program staff to develop and implement positive behavior intervention strategies and supports. As a Behavioral Intervention Technician, you will assist in creating and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of students with Autism and other autistic-like behaviors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with program staff and students to deliver positive behavior intervention strategies and progress monitor related behavior and social-emotional skills.
  • Support the implementation of practices and strategies to promote student progress towards individual IEP goals, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Assist teachers in developing and implementing instructional and behavioral support services using strategies aligned with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other research-based positive behavior intervention methodologies.
  • Provide direct intensive 1:1 support for students who engage in aggressive or unsafe behaviors towards themselves or others and/or exhibit significant mental health needs.
  • Support the implementation of prompt fading strategies to increase student independence and/or less restrictive levels of support.
  • Assist in creating specialized curriculum tasks/materials to support IEP goals, such as social stories, visuals, behavior supports, etc.
  • Support virtual and in-person data collection, creation of data sheets, monitoring, and analysis of data collection for behavior and social-emotional goals.
  • Collaborate with case managers to prepare for IEP meetings and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Maintain classroom environments in a safe, clean, and orderly condition, ensuring the health and safety of students by following established health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student records and information according to established guidelines.
Requirements
  • Two years of behavior support experience in a school or home setting.
  • Completion of 2 years of college-level training or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience with specific behavioral strategies/programs (ABA, behavior management, mental health systems) preferred.
  • BCBA Certification preferred (or actively working towards obtaining it).
Working Conditions

This role involves working in various environments, including in-person/on-campus support for students and programs, indoor classroom settings, outdoor settings, and virtual settings. Travel to multiple District sites as assigned may be required.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and program staff. A valid California driver's license is also required.
