Strategic Communications Director

Job Summary

The Associate Director of External Communications will play a key role in expanding awareness of Loyola University Chicago and differentiating its unique position as a leader in higher education. This mission-critical role will oversee one direct report and collaborate with the larger marketing and communication team to develop and implement proactive and innovative storytelling strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and direct external communications strategies and tactics that strengthen Loyola's mission and lift Loyola University Chicago's brand.
  • Establish and maintain an effective crisis communications plan.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and advocate for maximizing media coverage.
  • Train community members to work with media and develop and place op-eds with key media outlets.
  • Provide strategic counsel to Assistant Vice President and University leadership in issues management situations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field; advanced degree in Business, Marketing, or Communications preferred.
  • 5-8 years of experience in Public or Media Relations, Marketing, or related communications experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with adaptive writing agility for a variety of mediums.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and social media management platforms.
  • Proven success in PR pitching and high-profile media placements.
