Counselor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) Fresno City College Position

Fresno City College is seeking a Counselor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) to join our team. As a Counselor, you will provide comprehensive counseling services to students, including academic, career, personal, and life transitions counseling. You will also provide group counseling sessions, orientations, and workshops, and assist students in clarifying their educational goals and developing Student Educational Plans (SEPs).

- Provide group counseling sessions, orientations, and workshops.
- Assist students in clarifying their educational goals and developing Student Educational Plans (SEPs).
- Monitor student progress through comprehensive electronic data systems.
- Maintain close working relationships with program and other instructional faculty, feeder high schools, and community resources agencies.
- Work with a diverse population of students to emphasize strategies for educational planning and transfer preparation.
- Utilize and keep abreast of advanced counseling methods and student development theories that include integrating technology to support student learning and identification of career objectives.
- Provide counseling services specific to the needs of students on academic probation or disqualification.
- Counsel with broad range of community college counseling services, including career and educational planning, orientation, transfer, veteran services, student recruitment, and personal counseling.
- Instruction in counseling classes for job preparation, career planning, study skills, transfer preparation, or group dynamics.
- Assignment may also include multimedia classroom presentations and advising, large group presentations, implementing retention strategies, integrating technology into counseling functions, working with students and faculty members and other counselors.
- Participate in the implementation of student success strategies.
- Involvement in committee work and strategic planning efforts.
- Implementation of student learning outcomes.
- Perform other established duties and responsibilities of counselors.
- Assume such other duties as may be assigned by the Dean of Student Services.
- Flexibility as duties may include extended day, evening and weekend assignments.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff and maintain effective working relationships.
- Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling.
- A valid California Community College Credential.
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
- Willingness to examine and remediate one's practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
- Related work and professional experience.
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
- Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
- Experience in designing and preparing Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for community college students.
- Experience teaching courses in career and personal development and/or conducting workshops.
- Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes.
- Knowledge of student development theories pertaining to community college students.
- Ability to develop and maintain counseling notes in Datatel, SARS, or similar electronic record keeping software in a timely and effective manner.
- Experience working effectively with student success programs.
- Knowledge and experience interpreting and utilizing articulation agreements and transfer requirements for community college students.
- Experience in using and interpreting a variety of career assessment tools.
- Experience in developing and presenting counseling related workshops and orientation sessions.
- Experience participating in outreach activities in the community and on campus.
- Experience providing counseling and follow-up services to students on probation or academic dismissal status.
- The ability to connect students with on/off campus resources to assist them in their college life management.
- Ability to use a broad range of technology pertaining to data collection and analysis for student success.
- Ability to work closely with faculty in academic divisions and engage in collegial dialogue on issues of student success.
- Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- All salary classification placements on the salary schedule will be based on education and experience (where applicable) as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
